New Opportunity January 2019
As you are aware, St. Martin’s is an OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ school. We are also situated in the same Parish as Woodhouses Primary School and Rev. Grant is a representative on both Governing Bodies.
The Headteacher at Woodhouses is leaving the school at Christmas to take up a new post. The Governing Body of the school have been working hard, alongside the Diocese and the Local Authority, to ensure that Woodhouses continues to be a successful and thriving school under new leadership. As a smaller school there are tight budget constraints which prohibit them from appointing a new Headteacher. With this in mind, they have explored a variety of leadership structures that will enable the school to be sustainable.
Their preferred option is to federate with a larger school and employ an Executive Headteacher to lead both schools. This would be what is called a ‘soft federation.’ This means the two schools would benefit from economy of scale for resources and joint expertise whilst still maintaining their own identities and their own Governing Bodies.
I am delighted to announce that St. Martin’s will lead on this federation. The link is an exciting opportunity for all staff to work within a larger team and share expertise. It is also a great chance for the children to make links with another school and experience a different setting for projects etc. Myself and the Senior Leadership Team will be responsible for both schools and will spend time at each school on a weekly basis.
The federation will be on a trial basis for 12 months, after which time, there will be an opportunity for all stakeholders, including parents, to evaluate the arrangement to ensure it is meeting all expectations and is beneficial to both schools.
If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me at school.
