Art

At St. Martin’s, through our Art and Design curriculum, we aim to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art.  Our curriculum is designed to give pupils every opportunity to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world.

We want our children to experience success in art and design and ‘SHINE’ in creating works of art that have been inspired by others. By the time they leave us, we want our pupils to be equipped with a range of techniques and the confidence and creativity to form a strong foundation for their Art and Design learning at key stage 3 and beyond.

Our Design and Technology curriculum includes a broad range of practical experiences with the aim of inspiring children to create innovative designs which solve real and relevant problems within a variety of different contexts. The design process is fundamental and runs throughout the units. This process encourages children to identify real and relevant problems, critically evaluate existing products and then take risks and innovate when designing and creating solutions to the problems. Time is built in to reflect, evaluate and improve on prototypes using design criteria throughout to support this process.

To ensure that our children access a progressive, skills-based curriculum, we have combined our art, design and technology curriculum that children will alternate each half-term.
