Happy Friday year 2, I hope you are well. Here are your learning activities for today.

The National Marine Aquarium will be doing live lessons live from their aquarium each Friday. There will be 2 sessions today

Session 1: 1:00-1:20 Looking at 'Deep Science' exploring all things to do with the deep.

Session 2  1:30 - 1:45 'Mermaid tales' which will be a short narrated story.

You can find these sessions on their youtube page each week

I hope you enjoy them!

This week we have been looking at the story Dougal's Deep Sea Diary and today we are going to use all of the learning we have done this week to write a diary entry that could go in his book. You are going to imagine that you are Dougal and write his diary entry for him, so you are going to use I saw instead of Dougal saw.

A diary entry needs to include

  • Dear diary  to start
  • A sentence describing what kind of day it has been.

Today has been a ______ day!

  • Describe what you did and how you felt about it.
  • Lots of detail in your sentences to help build up a picture in the reader's mind.
  • A last sentence that explains you will write again soon
  • Your name at the end.

Look back at your ideas that you wrote down yesterday as we are going to use these in today's lesson. If you want to remind yourself of the story, here is the link to the video

Remember a careful year 2 writer always uses

  • A capital letter and full stop for each sentence.
  • Clear finger spaces that match the size of your letters.
  • Letters that sit on the line.

I would also like to use expanded noun phrases in your writing today to really describe what you saw when you went diving.

Here are some examples:

When I was diving I saw an ancient, wooden treasure chest.

I found it hard to move the treasure chest but some strong, kind dolphins helped me.

I would love to read your diary entries once you have written them. Don't forget to send me a picture to our class email address so I can see your brilliant writing.

In today's maths lesson we are going to carry on making amounts. Did you enjoy making your own toy shop yesterday?

Task 1

In this task, you are going to practise making an amount from a choice of coins already given to you.

Remember to start by making the tens number first using coins and then make the ones number using coins.

Once you have circled the coins you think you need, count them up to check it makes the total you need.

Task 2

Have a look at the interactive lesson from White Rose where they look at making amounts and selecting the right coins.

Reading and phonics

Each day I would like you to log into Bug Club and read a book from your library. It is really important that you keep up your brilliant reading skills while you are at home.

It is also really important for you to keep practicing your phonic skills that we have worked really hard on last term.

This week here are some phonic websites for you to use:

Phonics play are once again offering a free log in for children and families to use at home.

You may log in with the following details:

     username: jan21

     password: home

This week our learning question is How do some religions help others?

Task 1

Watch this video that explains what the Golden Rule is.

The Golden Rule can make life better for everyone.

Task 2

Look at The Golden Rule worksheet. In the Bible, Jesus gave what was called The Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12), telling his followers to "Treat others as you would like to be treated."

Design a poster encouraging others to follow the Golden Rule. What would be the benefits of following the Golden Rule? How would you feel if others followed this rule? Would the world be a better place?
