Our Viking day
As part of our learning about the Vikings, we had a special 'Viking Day' where we learnt lots of new information and had a go at lots of different activities all to do with Viking life. In the morning, we learnt a lot from Gary, our Viking expert, about who the Vikings were, where they came from, and what they were really like, not just what everyone perceives them to be. There were lots of fascinating facts that we'll be sure not to forget!
Did you know that Vikings didn't actually wear horns on their helmets? Instead they had a small spike that would stop the sword of an enemy from piercing their helmet. Horns would have actually caused more harm than good, as it would help an enemy's sword to strike the top of the head, rather than deflect the blow.
Come and speak to our Year 5's to find out some more fascinating facts.
In the afternoon, we made clay oil lamps, created our own Viking board game, developed our art skills by sketching some of the artefacts on display and learnt how to fight like a Viking using a shield and spear.
