This week we are look at living on an Island and the book we are using is called Katie Morag Delivers the Mail by Mairi Hedderwick. You can listen to this story on You Tube read by Prenton Primary School. When you have listened to the story talk to your family about what it would be like to live on an island with that has the mail brought from the mainland of Scotland to the Island.
Have a look at the website https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/ and choose the 5-7 years section and play some of the maths games with your family.
Can you draw an island and add different areas to your island by colouring it in? You could now play the island hopping game - it's good physical fun and will fire your imagination.
Choose two areas that you call "islands" - it might be the couch and another comfy chair or, outside, a picnic blanket and a hoola-hoop circle. Place "stepping stones" between the two "islands" - like cushions or table mats. Pretend that everything in between is the sea, filled with crocodiles, giant jelly fish, or sharks waiting to catch someone who steps off the islands or stepping stones. One person can hop between the islands, while the other acts like a crocodile, shark or jelly fish and tries to catch them if they step off. Then swop roles.
Send me some photographs on our class email.
