Over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at what Oldham was like over 100 years ago.  I thought we would look at how toys have changed over the 100 years.  The story book that I would like you to look at today is almost 100 years old.  This book is called The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco.  I would like you to listen to the story, read it yourself or ask an adult to read the story to you.

After you have listen to or read The Velveteen Rabbit, I would like you to talk about the story with the adult that is working with you.

Did you enjoy the story?

Are toys different now and how are they different?

When you have talked about the story you could draw or make a picture of the Velveteen Rabbit.

Odd and Even Activity

When you go for your daily walk your family, look at house numbers. These house numbers will probably follow a pattern of either odd or even numbers. Can you predict what number will be on the next house? Talk about the pattern with your adults and brothers and sisters.

Now try these.

Today I would like you to choose ten toys that you have at home and decide what materials are used to make each of your toys.  When you have decided what they are made of tell you family in a verbal sentences what you have found out.  I have done one for you.  To practice your writing you could write your sentence down.

My teddy bear is made of fur and plastic.
