Nursery

Welcome to St Martin's Nursery class page, here you will find lots of useful information to help you support your child throughout their time in Nursery.

 

In Nursery, your child is supported by the following adults:

  • Miss Coverdale - support staff
  • Miss Halfhide - support staff
  • Miss Ryan - midday supervisor

 

 

In Nursery, our curriculum is based around key texts and linked first hand experiences that will engage and inspire our young learners. The topics, key texts and first hand experiences below are our core offer, we also follow the interests of our children to enhance the curriculum further.

 

Summer 1

 

Our topic this half term is Journeys. 

 

This week, Nursery have enjoyed the story "Whatever Next" by Jill Murphy.

On Tuesday, Nursery received a special letter from Baby Bear, the main character in the story inviting us to a picnic on the moon.

 

               

 

As Baby Bear asked us to bring some snacks, we had a discussion about where we could get our snacks from and we decided that we needed to visit a shop. Together, we wrote a shopping list. We talked about road safety and stranger danger. Then we set out for the local shop.

At the shop, we each found an item from our shopping list and then paid for it, remembering to say thank you to the shopkeeper.

 

We then got the bus back to school, we sang the wheels on the bus! When we got off the bus, we said thank you to the bus driver.

Once we were back at school, we each made a sandwich for our picnic. We also chopped up the melon and cucumber. We made sure we washed our hands before touching the food. Mrs Fabian showed us how to use a knife safely.

We then worked together to build our rocket and get all of the things that we needed for our picnic. We even made a campfire! We all put our space boots and space hats on, strapped ourselves into the rocket and then did our countdown. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... BLAST OFF! 

 

In Nursery, we use Seesaw to share the children's learning. It also allows you to share your child's experiences with us and we love to see what you have been getting up to. Remember to share what you do with your weekly home-learning sack with us too. All parents/carers should have a login for Seesaw, if you do not please speak to Mrs Fabian. 

 

 

 

 

Every Friday in Nursery, your child will be given a home learning sack with lots of fun activities for you to complete. Each home learning sack has a different theme and will cover many of the different areas of learning within the EYFS. Inside each sack you will find an instruction card along with all of the relevant resources that you need to complete the activities. We love seeing what your child does so remember to share their learning on Seesaw. Home learning sacks should be returned by Tuesday each week.
