Choose a book that you have at home. Before sharing the story, can you find:

  • The front cover?
  • The back cover?
  • The title?
  • The author?
  • The illustrator?

Share the book with a grown up or an older sibling. While you are reading talk about the book, what is happening in the pictures? Who are the characters? What do you think will happen at the end of the story (if you haven't read this book before)? Once you finish the book, discuss what you enjoyed about the book and why.

Can you draw a picture from the book?

Physical Development

In your garden or a space inside, create a points game.

What you will need:

  • A small ball
  • Some sticky tape or chalks

How to make your game:

  • Mark out a start line using tape or chalks
  • Create further five further lines in front of the start line at equal distances apart

How to play your game:

  • Stand on the start line holding your ball
  • Throw your ball and score points for the distance that your ball travels - past the first line 1 point, past the second line 2 points and so on

Extending your game:

  • Try rolling your ball instead - is this easier or harder?
  • Use a different object instead of a ball
  • Make the lines further apart - how does this impact your score?
  • Have a family competition and create a score chart
  • Try using the "wrong" hand to make this trickier
