Thinking about the story from yesterday’s activity, I would like you to answer these questions in sentences about the story.  You can watch the story again on this link.

  2. How many times a week would the boat be able to visit Struay once the pier had been finished?
  3. What kind of shop did Mrs. Baxter say she would open?
  4. What did the ferryman saw redundant meant?
  5. When did Mrs. McColl say the pier would be finished?
  6. In spring what was the weather like?
  7. What happened to the workmen’s huts?
  8. What colour was Katie Morag’s Rope?
  9. When was the pier actually finished?
  10. What happened to the old ferryboat at the end of the story?

Measuring Activity

In your house go and find 10 toys and I would like you to put them in height order? Your toys can be ordered from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest.  Adults can encourage you to use the correct language to compare the heights of your toys, e.g. taller than, shorter than.   Now try these heights.

Extend the activity by using different toys.

Seasonal Changes

Spring is here! Go for a walk and list all the examples you can see that shows you it is spring. Can you think of other things that happen when the seasons change? You could make a list, one under the other using bullet points. Try listing the features of summer, autumn and winter too. I have done 1 for you.

  • young animals

  • nights stay lighter longer

  • leaves falling off the trees

  • animals hibernate
